How this is calculated +
Contribution structure (statutory default):
Employee: 12% of (Basic + DA) — entirely to EPF
Employer: 12% of (Basic + DA) — split as 8.33% to EPS + 3.67% to EPF
Plus EDLI and admin charges by employer (not added to corpus)
This calculator tracks the EPF account only (not EPS). The 8.33% employer contribution to the Employees’ Pension Scheme is paid out as a monthly pension after retirement and is not part of the EPF corpus.
Wage ceiling note: the statutory wage ceiling for mandatory EPF coverage is ₹15,000 per month. Many employers extend coverage beyond this voluntarily; the calculator uses your actual basic + DA without applying the ceiling, which matches the typical white-collar arrangement.
Interest is compounded annually at the rate notified by EPFO. The rate for FY 2025-26 is 8.25%. Historical rates: FY 2022-23 was 8.15%, FY 2023-24 was 8.25%, FY 2024-25 was 8.25%. Future-year projections in this tool assume the rate you enter holds for the entire projection period.
Salary growth: the calculator assumes your basic + DA grows at the rate you enter, applied at the start of each year. Real-world salary trajectories step up at irregular intervals.
Tax treatment: EPF contributions are deductible under Section 80C (subject to the ₹1.5L cap, old regime). Interest is tax-exempt up to an aggregate annual contribution of ₹2.5L (employee + VPF combined); interest on contributions above ₹2.5L per FY is taxable per current rules.
Indicative only. EPF interest rates are notified annually and can change. Actual corpus depends on continuous service, no withdrawals during service, employer rate of contribution, and the wage on which contributions are computed. Talk to us for retirement planning advice tailored to your situation.
