The four layers of a standard monthly deck
A standard monthly MIS deck covers four layers:
- Financial summary — P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, key ratios. Compared to budget and prior period.
- KPI dashboard — revenue trend, gross margin, EBITDA, cash burn / generation, working capital, headcount.
- Cohort / segment analysis — customer cohort, product / SKU, geography, channel.
- Variance commentary — why actuals differ from budget, with actionable observations.
For SaaS / D2C / e-commerce clients, additional dashboards: ARR / MRR, CAC / LTV, retention curves, AOV trend, contribution margin per cohort.
The audiences we build packs for
Founders running a growing business; board chairs of family-owned and unlisted private companies; lenders requiring monthly MIS as a covenant; PE / VC sponsors expecting structured monthly packs; CFOs wanting an independent second opinion on the close; treasury teams managing covenants and forecasts.
From scoping to annual reset
- Scoping — what your investor, lender, or internal stakeholder cares about.
- Data architecture — pulling data from accounting / ERP / CRM / HRMS into a working model.
- Template design — the deck, dashboards, and commentary structure tuned to your business.
- Monthly cycle — T+5 to T+10 working days from month-end to delivery.
- Partner review before the pack ships.
- Quarterly deep-dive — trend analysis, scenario modelling, action items.
- Annual reset — new budget, refreshed KPI definitions.
What you receive each cycle
- 15–25 page MIS deck (PDF + editable PowerPoint).
- Underlying Excel model with transparent calculations.

How long & how we charge
Initial setup (templates, data architecture, first cycle): 3–5 weeks. Steady-state: monthly retainer. Pricing depends on data complexity and number of dashboards. Annual budget reset and quarterly deep-dives are bundled in the retainer.
Common questions on MIS reports
Will you build dashboards in our BI tool?
Yes. We’ve worked with Power BI, Tableau, Looker Studio, Metabase, and Zoho Analytics. We can build the model in Excel and the dashboard in your tool of choice.
Can the MIS pack be sent to investors directly?
Yes — subject to your sign-off. Many clients use our pack as the official investor MIS, with us copied on distribution.
How do you handle data quality issues?
We flag them in the variance commentary and follow up with the books team / vendors. Persistent issues become an action item in the quarterly review.
Do you run management accounts that aren’t statutory P&L / BS?
Yes — cohort P&L, contribution margin views, location P&L, business-unit P&L, etc. Common for SaaS, D2C, retail, real-estate, and franchise businesses.
