What is the BBMP Trade License?

Trade License is a certificate / document issued by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) or other concerned municipal authority, which grants the permission to carry on a particular trade or business for which it is issued.
Schedule X of the Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act, 1976, deals with the purposes for which premises may not be used without a license obtained from the Commissioner under Section 353. Therefore, business entities desiring to operate any of the activities listed under the said Schedule are required to obtain a Trade License from the concerned authority.

- To ensure that citizens are not adversely affected by health hazards from improper carrying out of a trade.
- Provides Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) with a systematic approach to regulate trade activities in their jurisdictional area.
Documents for BBMP Trade License
- Statutory document like Incorporation Certificate / MOA, Partnership Deed, etc., and PAN.
- KYC documents of the Promoter and Owner (Aadhaar, PAN Card, address proof, and photograph).
- Mobile number and email ID.
- Latest property tax receipt.
- Rent agreement copy and No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the property owner (if the premises are on rent).
- No Objection Certificate from adjacent / immediate neighbour (if required for the specific trade activity in residential zone areas as per BBMP guidelines).
Annual renewal & how we help
The BBMP Trade License is generally valid for one financial year and must be renewed annually. The renewal application is filed online through the BBMP Trade License portal, accompanied by the prescribed fee (which varies by trade category, premises size and capital), and is subject to inspection by the BBMP Health / Sanitary Inspector. Operating any trade or business covered by Schedule X without a valid Trade License attracts penalties under the Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act, 1976.
